Description

This hearty American country-style dish combines sweet and savory baked beans with flavorful ground beef. It’s the perfect comfort food for family gatherings, cookouts, or cozy weeknight dinners!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (85/15 for flavor)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cans (15 ounces each) pork and beans, undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce (your favorite)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Optional: dash of hot sauce
  • Optional garnish: chopped fresh parsley or green onions

Instructions

  • In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it apart as it browns.
  • When the beef is halfway cooked, add the diced onion and minced garlic. Cook until beef is browned and onions are tender, about 7–8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • Reduce heat to medium and stir in ketchup, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Cook for 2–3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  • Add pork and beans, kidney beans, and black beans. Stir gently to combine.
  • Simmer on low for 30 minutes, covered, stirring occasionally.
Transfer to a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  • If desired, uncover for the last 10 minutes to thicken the sauce.
  • Garnish with parsley or green onions before serving, if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add diced jalapeños or chipotle powder.
  • For a smoky flavor boost, stir in cooked bacon pieces.
  • Great for freezing cool completely before storing.
